The 24 Hour Musical exists to better our local and global communities through theater arts.

We believe that theatre can (and should!) be used to make a difference in our world. So that's what we do, and we do it while creating unifying, uplifting community experiences and introducing exciting new challenges for theatre artists.

Since 2014, we’ve produced an annual 24 Hour Musical, putting together a full-scale, Broadway-style musical production in only 24 hours. We bring together a diverse group of theatre artists and volunteers from around the Upstate to make this possible. Funding for the event comes entirely from donations, sponsorships, and fundraisers. Tickets to the show are free, with donations accepted, and all proceeds from the show go directly to our charity partner.

Inspired by the efforts and format of likeminded theatre artists in Chicago, Noah and Carlie Taylor founded Anderson’s 24 Hour Musical as an independent non-profit organization in 2014, before The Market Theatre Company even existed. The 1st annual 24 Hour Musical took place August 8-9, 2014. Throughout the month of July, local actors submitted their audition videos online, and the creative team notified those who were cast in the show. The title of the show remained a secret until just 24 hours before showtime. The cast, creative team, and sponsors came together for a Kick-Off Party on Friday, August 8, where the show was revealed, and the actors’ roles were announced. Rehearsals began immediately, running through the night, while teams of volunteers simultaneously located props, made costumes, and built sets.

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown was a huge success for the 24 Hour Musical. The theatre was filled to capacity just 10 minutes after the doors opened on Saturday. In all, we raised $1,530.50 for the Anderson Free Clinic.

Fast forward to July 10-11, 2015, and the 24HM team was ready to do it all again! This time, a second performance was added so that more people would have a chance to see the show and support the cause. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee played to two sold out audiences. The energy and laughter were unbelievable! The second 24 Hour Musical raised a total of $2,346.65 for the Cancer Association of Anderson.

For our third year, the 24 Hour Musical team knew that a big change was needed to meet the growing popularity of our annual show. Our 2016 show was presented in the 220-seat Daniel Recital Hall, located right above our original home in Belk Theatre. The Wizard of Oz featured our largest cast yet and raised $2,032.75 for DCEC. The theatre filled up in record time as our community came together to support this amazing cause.

Year four saw even bigger changes as 24 Hour Musical moved down the hall to the 1,000-seat Henderson Auditorium at Anderson University. Disney’s High School Musical played to nearly 500 patrons and raised $3,505.02 for Meals on Wheels of Anderson.

In 2018, the fifth annual 24 Hour Musical was Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, raising $3,928.00 for the Anderson County Foster Parents Association.

Starting in 2015, the 24 Hour Musical organization also partnered with the City of Anderson to produce the wildly popular Shakespeare in the Park for one weekend each summer.

24 Hour Musical founders and team members also founded The Market Theatre Company in 2016. In 2018, the boards of directors of each organization decided that both organizations could further their missions by officially joining forces. The two organizations merged, with 24 Hour Musical and Shakespeare in the Park becoming part of The Market’s annual mainstage season.

The 2019 24 Hour Musical was Footloose, presented by The Market Theatre Company at Anderson University. $5,595.00 was raised for The LOT Project.
