The Market Theatre Company exists to engage with artists and patrons by creating quality entertainment, educational opportunities, and a vibrant community arts hub.
The Market offers a full season of theatrical productions, plus concerts, workshops, classes, improv and comedy nights. There's something for everyone at The Market!
Founders Dalton & Meghan Cole and Noah & Carlie Taylor have dreamt of opening a new theatre company for years. In April 2015, we learned of the Accelerate Anderson Downtown Challenge. We entered our idea for a then-untitled theatre company into the competition, and after several rounds of workshops, presentations, and challenges, we were selected as one of three winners. With the promise of a $12,000 award and a business services package, The Market Theatre Company was born.
After winning the competition, we worked to find a home for our new theatre, plan our first season of shows, and legally structure our organization. We also hosted a fundraiser Gala at Anderson University, where we announced plans for our inaugural season. This was a huge success, offering the community a glimpse of the quality entertainment that The Market will create!
After months of searching, planning, and hard work, The Market found its home at the Anderson Arts Center and launched its inaugural season with The Fantasticks in February. Throughout 2016, we offered a mainstage season of shows, launched an in-house improv comedy team Piggly Giggly, hosted various community events such as karaoke nights and swing dance parties, and offered workshops and a week-long intensive educational summer camp.
How You Can Help
Opening a theatre has been a dream of each of ours for so many years. We have dreamed of producing excellent theatre, providing challenges and opportunities for local artists, and giving new life to our community through the arts. Thanks to the Accelerate Anderson Downtown Challenge, we are ecstatic to see this dream come to life! We understand that this is an enormous undertaking, and we won't be able to do this alone! We will need all kinds of help and support from our friends, family, and community to see The Market continue..
As a brand new nonprofit organization, we are starting from the ground up, and every penny donated will be used to bring the dream of The Market to life. Renovations, legal fees, insurance, show licensing, and equipment are just a few of The Market's expenses. All donors will be listed and thanked in our season programs. High level donors and corporate sponsors can become show presenters and be listed as the primary producer of one of our shows, with their logo on all of our marketing for the production!
